Crossmark Policy

Our journal participates in CrossMark, a multi-publisher initiative that has developed a standard way for readers to locate the current version of an article. By enforcing CrossMark policies, our journal is committed to maintaining the content it publishes and alerting readers to changes as and when they occur.

Clicking on the CrossMark logo (at the top of each article) provides the current status of an article and directs you to the latest published version and may also provide additional information.

To maintain the integrity and integrity of the academic record, the following policies will apply when published content needs to be corrected; These policies take into account current best practices in the academic publishing and library communities:

  1. Correction of an article: Peer-reviewed prior to publication, corrections (or Erratum) are published to alert readers to errors in the article that became apparent after the publication of the final article.
  2. Retraction: Articles may be removed for a variety of reasons, including research misconduct (data fabrication), duplicate or overlapping publication, fraudulent use of data, clear plagiarism, and unethical research.

For any article withdrawn, the reason for the withdrawal and who is instigating the withdrawal will be clearly stated in the Withdrawal notice. The withdrawal notice will be linked to the withdrawn article (which usually remains on the site) and the article will be clearly marked as withdrawn (including the PDF). Generally, an article is withdrawn at the request of the authors or the editor in response to an institutional investigation.

The content of a withdrawn article will only be removed when legal limitations are imposed on the publisher, copyright holder, or author(s), for example, if the article is clearly defamatory or violates the legal rights of others or if the article is the same. subject to a court order. In such cases, the bibliographic information of the article will be kept on the site, along with information about the circumstances that led to the removal of the content.

In rare circumstances, for example, if false or inaccurate data has been published and, if adopted, presents a serious health risk, the original incorrect versions may be removed and a corrected version published. The reason for this partial removal would be clearly stated in the most recent version.

To protect the legal rights and interests of both the journal and authors, and to clarify the copyright property and ownership, the following statement regarding manuscript copyright is made:

  • Originality and Submission: The authors declare that they have not submitted the paper for publication anywhere else and that the submitted article has not been published previously. For any manuscript submitted to the journal, the authors should declare that their submitted paper is their own original work, it does not infringe any rights or disclose any secrets, and that no disputes of intellectual property shall arise in relation to the ranking of author names, and it does not contain or include material taken from other copyrighted sources. Wherever such materials have been included, they must be clearly identified by quotation marks and/or proper citation of such sources.
  • Copyright and Licensing: After publication in the journal, authors retain the copyright of their articles. Authors transfer the copyright to the journal to publish the article, use it for indexing, and store it on the journal website for public use. All published works are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This license means that authors reserve all proprietary rights, such as patent rights, and the right to copy and redistribute the material of published works in any medium or format. They also have the right to use all or part of the article in their future works (e.g., lectures, press releases, and reviews of textbooks), remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially. Under the Creative Commons end-user license, readers can reuse portions or extracts from the published article in their works by including attribution to the original work and its author.
  • Corresponding Author and Co-Authorship: Only individuals who significantly contributed to the conception, design, implementation, or interpretation of the reported study should be given the privilege of authorship. When additional people contributed to the research study in a meaningful way, they should be acknowledged or identified as contributors. The final version of the work has been seen by all co-authors, who have given their approval and consent to its submission for publication. If the article was jointly prepared by more than one author, any author submitting the manuscript warrants that they have been authorized by all co-authors to agree to this copyright and license notice (agreement) on their behalf and agrees to inform their co-authors of the terms of this policy. The journal will not be held liable for anything that may arise due to the authors’ internal dispute. The journal will only communicate with the corresponding author.
  • Conflict of Interest Statement: The journal defines a conflict of interest as "anything that interferes with or could reasonably be perceived as interfering with the full and objective presentation, commissioning, peer review, editorial decision-making, or publication of research or non-research articles." A conflict of interest exists if a person or institution has a relationship, personal or otherwise, which has the potential to compromise or in any way interfere with professional objectivity or judgment in issues related to the relationship. Authors are not the only stakeholders who may have biases or competing interests. It is equally important for editors, editorial board members, and reviewers to disclose any potential conflicts of interest at all stages of the publication process.
  • Disclaimer: No responsibility is assumed by the publisher and co-publishers, nor by the editors, for any injury and/or damage to persons or property as a result of any actual or alleged libelous statements, infringement of intellectual property or privacy rights, or product liability, whether resulting from negligence or otherwise, or from any use or operation of any ideas, instructions, procedures, products, or methods contained in the material therein.

GDPR Policy

Purpose of GDPR Policy

The publisher, Nordic Open Research aims to regulate GDPR Policy to keep authors informed about how we collect, use, share, secure, and process their personal data.

The data controller for this policy is the publisher.

How We Collect Data

To fulfill our primary professional purpose of publishing your articles, we collect authors’ names, surnames, affiliations, and email addresses as personal data.

How We Use Data

The author’s name, surname, and affiliation are collected to differentiate authors and their manuscripts from others, as well as to give credit to authors for their work. By submitting a manuscript, each author acknowledges that they will be announced as the author of a certain published article and take credit for their scientific contributions.

The purpose of collecting the author’s email address is for correspondence. From the submission of the article until its publication, we need to maintain constant communication with the Corresponding author or, in their absence, with other co-authors. Every step in our publication process is followed by a notification sent to the Corresponding author, and authors have the right to reach out to the publisher via email at any time. Therefore, all correspondence is conducted through email.

How We Disclose Data

Only the publisher has access to authors’ names, surnames, affiliations, and email addresses.

How We Store Data

The author’s data is saved in our online system where authors submit their manuscripts, and they have constant access to it. Authors’ personal data is not exported outside of the system. The duration of data storage is unlimited since our published articles remain in our archive and are published on the website permanently.

The Data Subject’s Rights

Authors have several rights regarding their data storage:

  • The Right to Access: Authors can access their manuscript registrations and edit uploaded data at any time.
  • The Right to Be Forgotten: Upon request, authors can ask to delete their personal data from the system. In such cases, the publisher will delete the author’s profile and decline the submission.
  • The Right to Object: Authors can object to any changes made during the Galley Proof version, and the publisher must comply with the author’s instructions.

How to Complain

The supervisory authority responsible for executing authors' rights stated in the GDPR Policy is the publisher. In case of any GDPR violations, please contact us at: editor@nordicopenresearch.org.

Changes in the Privacy Policy

The publisher reserves the right to modify the GDPR Policy and is obligated to notify the authors via publication on our website.

Open Access Policy

All research articles published in this journal are fully open access, meaning they are immediately and freely available to read, download, and share.

Articles are published under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. This license supports the global exchange of knowledge by allowing for the easy re-use of open-access material. Authors retain the copyright to their work and permit others to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt their work, provided proper attribution is given. The terms of the license are as follows: appropriate credit must be given, a link to the license provided, and any changes indicated. These actions must be done in a reasonable manner that does not suggest the licensor endorses the user or their use.

The author represents and warrants that the article is their original work and that it has not been published or submitted for publication in any prior form. The author further represents that they have the right to grant this license to the journal and that the article is neither defamatory of any persons or products nor infringes upon any third party’s copyrights. If the article contains material for which the author does not hold the copyright, the author must clearly identify and acknowledge such material within the text and confirm that its use is either with the permission of the copyright holder or falls under permissible use.

In the event of any subsequent dispute over the copyrights to the material contained in the article, the author agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the journal and its employees for any uses of the article authorized by this agreement.

All published content is permanent and accessible through our use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), which ensure the articles can be located throughout the world.

Publication Ethics Statement

The publication of an article in this platform is a crucial element in building a respected and coherent network of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the authors' work and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed articles uphold and embody the scientific method. Therefore, it is essential to adhere to ethical standards for all parties involved in publishing: authors, journal editors, peer reviewers, the publisher, and the associated society.

Nordic Open Research relies on the integrity and honesty of its editors to publish the best manuscripts that conform to ethical standards and meet all the requirements of the journal's mission. We implement a rigorous peer-review process while adhering to strict ethical policies and standards to ensure that only high-quality scientific literature is added to the field of scholarly publishing. We take publishing ethics seriously and address issues with a zero-tolerance policy.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is an unethical act where someone uses another's ideas, processes, results, words, data, or theories without giving appropriate credit. It is one of the significant issues affecting scientific communication in journal publications. Self-plagiarism occurs when an author uses a significant portion of their own previously published work without proper citation. Plagiarism includes the publication of the same manuscript with only minor changes from previously published work and little new information in multiple journals. We use plagiarism detection software (iThenticate) available to our editors and reviewers in the manuscript management system. Manuscripts found to have plagiarism are rejected.

Examples of Plagiarism:

  • Duplicate submission/publication and redundant publication
  • Data fabrication/data falsification
  • Duplication of text and/or figures (plagiarism)
  • Citation manipulation
  • Improper author contribution or attribution
  • Redundant publications
  • Undeclared conflict of interest (CoI)
  • Ethical issues in research involving humans, animals, plants, and heritage sites, including biosafety, biosecurity, and emerging biotechnology
  • Human rights, privacy, and confidentiality concerns

Human rights, privacy, and confidentiality

For manuscripts reporting research involving human participants, including but not limited to medical research, journal editors require information about patient consent, ethical approval, and confidentiality. Clinical research must be conducted according to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.icmje.org) regarding patient consent for human participation in clinical research or research.

Registering Clinical Trials
The journal requires authors to provide clinical trial registration numbers. This number should be included in all articles reporting trial results.
